Have you been trying to start, reignite, or keep a steady meditation practice? This offering is for YOU!

Becoming the Seer is a 5-week initiation rite into the philosophy and practice of Kriya meditation as outlined in Patañjali’s Yoga Sutras. From April 16th to May 17th, our intimate group (limited to 9 students) will meet every Tuesday evening from 7:30-9pm EST in the monastery of Zoom.

 

In this regular satsang (a gathering for devotional instruction), we will read and reflect upon all four chapters of the Yoga Sutras––196 enigmatic aphorisms compiled almost two millennia ago by the Indian sage, Patañjali. This enduring text continues to inspire and shine light on the yogic practice of concentrating oneself so as to become absorbed in and witness to the experience of being an eternal Self. 

 

In addition to our weekly Tuesday evening gatherings, you will meet with me each week for private 1-on-1 guided Kriya meditation practice. In these individually scheduled 40-minute online sessions you’ll learn the basics of posture (how to sit comfortably), pranayama (how to control your breathing), plus the visualizations and mantras that help focus and still the natural fluctuations of the mind. 

 

I emphatically declare that learning how to practice this regular stillness will have a positively profound and sustainable effect upon your life and wellbeing… how you meet each day, each other, every circumstance, challenge, opportunity… 

 

Additionally, there will be an optional/recorded Friday morning Meditation Lab from 9-10am EST each week to practice and progress together as a group. Our goal in the first week will be to sit for 8 minutes. In the weeks that follow we’ll aim for 18 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and finally, in our last group lab, a full hour-long meditation. 

 

Over the course of the five weeks, students will also be invited to explore a variety of Home Devotions, such as: experimenting with their own morning practice/ritual, writing Morning Pages, abstaining from screens/technology for specific and extended periods of time, exchanging audio notes with their classmates, and posting reflections to our online discussion board.
