This course, open to all, is designed for the mystical seeker and theologically curious. Through a committed semester of study, you will learn and test practical spiritual skills passed on through the ages that can accompany one for a lifetime.

John Coltrane’s "A Love Supreme," Virginia Woolf’s Moments of Being, Saint Teresa of Avila’s Interior Castle, Evagrius Ponticus’ Chapters on Prayer, selected Upanishads, portions of The Bhagavad Gita, and all of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras will become familiar to you by the end of our divine journey together.

We start in the dark depths of January and agree to meet each week until the first day of spring. Together, we will keep each other warm through the long loneliness of winter by practicing how to read, write, pray, move, breathe, meditate, walk, listen, create, share, serve, and surrender.

Though rooted primarily in Yogic philosophy, our course will take many detours through complimentary contemplative traditions, including Buddhism, Christian mysticism, and other esoteric teachings. In the second half of the program, each student will experiment with how to practice their own unique form of monastic renunciation.

Our final class will be held on Monday, April 1st (the day after Easter)—a day to ritually celebrate ourselves anew as  “Fools”...  revitalized lovers and artists ready to begin again.
